Introducing Baby Martin #2

I had my first OB appointment yesterday afternoon and was very relieved to find out that there was only one baby in there. I feel like I've grown really quickly for being only 11 weeks and have already put on like 6 pounds (insert big gasp here!) Baby measured right on target for 11.5 weeks and the doctor left my due date at 1/9/10. I really liked my doctor, who came highly recommended by my friend Bonnie, and was pleased to hear that she thinks I'm a candidate for a TOLAC.... what the heck is that you ask? It's a new term I just learned yesterday and it stands for Trial Of Labor After Cesarean... meaning they'll let me try to have a vaginal birth even though I had a C-section the first time with Allison. Once you have successfully birthed the baby the old fashion way it is referred to as a VBAC or a Vaginal Birth After Cesarean.

I won't go back again until 8/3 at which point I'll be a little over 17 weeks. At that appointment I'll get to schedule my second ultrasound during which we will be able to find out the sex of the baby. At first Matthew and I were in disagreement over this point... I want to find out (what a shock given that I'm just slightly Type A) and Matthew didn't. He recently came round to may way of thinking though and now he is just as anxious as I am to find out. It's still a surprise, it just comes 20 weeks earlier!

And now, without further ado... here is Baby Martin #2! (the black line at the top of the pictures is me blacking out Matthew's social security number, which the Navy insists on using for all identification purposes. Thought he'd appreciate it if I didn't publish that for anyone to see. You're welcome honey!)

11 Weeks

Just in case you were wondering, this is what 11 weeks pregnant looks like the second time around:

According to babycenter.com, the baby is as big as a fig or about 1.5 inches long. Hard to believe that tiny little thing could make my belly swell so much already! I'm full blown into the maternity clothes now and can't fit into to any of my regular pants. My first real appointment with my doctor is on Wednesday. In typical Wendy fashion, I have a laundry list of questions! I will not be bringing Ally with me this time around because I don't want this to happen again. She will be spending the morning with her grandparents. I'll update sometime on Wednesday after my appointment.
We're leaving for a road trip to NYC on Thursday where we'll be visiting with my step brother Len, his wife Melissa, and their 3month old little boy Jude. We're excited to have Ally and Jude meet for the first time.

Happy Father's Day!

Happy Father's Day to the two favorite Dads in my life.
I hope Ally will enjoy as special of a relationship with Matthew as I have with my dad.
Love you both!

Baby's Got Some New Pink Shoes!

I bought Ally some new shoes today. They have squeakers in the heels. She loved running up and down the hallway squeaking all the way. The dogs were going nuts though and Gus tried to hump her a few times so that could be problematic. Luckily the squeakers can be removed which I'm sure I will consider a blessing in a few days when I'm regretting buying these incredibly annoying, noisy shoes!

What Not To Do At Your First OB Appointment

This is the post in which I detail exactly what you should not do at your first OB appointment at Portsmouth Naval Medical Center.

1. DO NOT bring your 15 month old baby to the 9am appointment that happens to coincide with nap time. I cannot stress the importance of this one enough!! If I'd had another option I certainly would have exercised it but I had no one to watch her and everyone knows you don't dare miss an appointment with Navy Medicine- you may have to wait months for another one!

2. Upon discovering the appointment is actually an orientation to PNMC that you will take along with 15 other couples, DO NOT get teary eyed and depressed because your husband isn't there. Instead make sure to wave your left hand around profusely to ensure that everyone sees your wedding and engagement rings lest they think you are an unwed mama!

3. DO NOT park the stroller next to the table that contains all the forms, manuals and paperwork easily within your child's reach.

4. In a desperate attempt to entertain your child, DO NOT give her a ball point clicky pen to play with while you are filling out paperwork. Inevitably you will find her arms and face covered with ink marks

5. When you finally get out of the excruciatingly long class and go downstairs for your first set of lab work, DO NOT decided to give your child a break from her four wheeled prison and let her out of the stroller in the bathroom while you are collecting your urine sample. As you are washing your hands, you will remember that this toilet has no lid like the one at home just in time to watch her throw her toy into the bowl as you mouth "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO" in slow motion. Perhaps you never liked said toy anyway and just throw it in the trash.

6. After nap time has come and gone and you are finally leaving the hospital, DO NOT forget what level and row you parked in. Screaming unhappy children do not aid in recollection!

Random Mess Of Pictures

I always take more pictures when Matthew is away. I make an effort to send him some every day so my camera is never far away. These were all taken over the past few days.

Hanging out in the morning with her two favorite things- Lily Mae and her pink blankie. Yes, she is still wearing snowman pajamas in June!

Hanging out on the front steps after feeding the ducks- in more appropriate sheep jammies!

My little helper loves to water plants- too bad she can only lift the can when it's empty.

A few $.99 measuring cups and a colander from the dollar store made for a fun evening of entertainment!

Here she is deciding on the best tactic for dumping all the water out.

All this play makes a girl thirsty!

My sweet Ally

Yes, she is trying to lick the spilled water off the disgustingly dirty deck.

Baby bump- ALREADY!?!? Could there be two babies in there??

Enjoying some QT with Mo

Silly girl!

Be The Match

The National Bone Marrow Registry is holding their annual Marrowthon from June 8-22, 2009. During this time, you can register to be donor for free! I registered a few years ago and paid $65 so this is a great deal! I don't know anyone that has had a marrow transplant, nor do I know anyone that has ever donated, but after reading up on the program I knew it was something I wanted to do. If you are so inclined, please check it out at Be The Match. You could save a life!

The Most Sophisticated Piece Of Equipment I Will Ever Pee On....

That's right... it's official! Allison is going to be a big sister! We had a one month window to get pregnant to ensure that Matthew would be home in time for the big day. Apparently all it takes is a wink from across the room because we were successful on the first try again! I'm terrible at keeping secrets, especially happy ones so we've been telling people since shortly after we found out. We're all very excited and hope that you will share in our joy.
