TWO

So, it's been over a month since I last updated my blog. I'm going to keep on claiming the deployed husband/ new baby/ toddler at home excuse and just beg forgiveness. This is just one more thing I can add to the list of things that make me feel incredibly guilty these days. Matthew said the other day "it's just a blog Wendy... the world isn't going to end if you don't update it." Very true, but since I suck so much at keeping up with baby books this blog was supposed to serve as a record of Ally and Hank's lives and here I've missed a whole month of them! Bad mommy! Okay, enough with the self imposed guilt trip.

March has been the month of TWO. Hank turned two months on March 3rd and continues to change before my very eyes every week. He has a beautiful smile, a delightful little coo, and is just the handsomest little guy I know. He takes after his daddy! At his well baby appointment last week he weighed in at 13 pounds and 15.5 ounces. It doesn't get much closer to 14 pounds than that! He was in the 90th percentile for his weight!! 23.5 inches long (50%) and 40cm head circumference (50%). Unfortunately he too has been plagued by acid reflux. We got him on zantac over a month ago and it seemed to work for a little while, but he's been struggling a lot lately and I can tell he is in pain so we're going back to the doctor today to try another medication perhaps and to get a referral to the pediatric gastroenterologist that Ally sees since I don't plan to waste any time getting him properly treated this time around. In spite of his reflux issues, he is a happy baby by and large. He is nursing well (thank God!) and has survived on breast milk alone for the past 10.5 weeks (go me!!)

On March 8th our little Allison turned TWO YEARS OLD!!! I still don't know how that is possible! While she has struggled the past few months to adjust to her daddy coming home for 4 weeks then leaving again for 3 months, been sick three times in the past month, and welcomed a new baby brother into her life, she has still managed to thrive and develop a delicious zest for life. She adores Hank and with the exception of the occasional swat to the head, she is most affectionate with him and concerned for his well being. This month she's started to sing- twinkle twinkle little star is her favorite song. Her vocabulary is also exploding and she's a wonderful conversationalist. We still battle with her at meal times and in fact discovered that she lost over a pound in the five months between appointments with her specialist. Not good news for a kiddo with feeding issues. She is now on an even higher calorie formula and taking a powdered substitute mixed in with pureed foods to add even more calories. She gets in home therapy once a week with the awesome Ms. April, and is more willing to try new foods now. She munched on a bell pepper with hummus last night and seemed to enjoy the flavor but as usual, spit it out without swallowing after a few minutes. Her one new love is chocolate- specifically m&ms (which she calls 'nems'). She will actually suck on it and eat the whole thing! For most two year olds this is probably not a big deal, but it's a huge deal for Ally! Consequently we go through a lot of nems every day and have a supply at the ready at all times! Not great for my diet, but whatever!

My dad and Ann are here with us again for the month of March and are a huge help with the kids. Ray and Dee (Matthew's parents) are also around a lot and were instrumental to helping me survive the month of February on my own. Shout out to awesome grandparents!!

Matthew is due home in early-mid April... as far as we know. His ship, the USS Bataan is the only US Navy asset still in Haiti and they have turned the humanitarian aid efforts over to non government operations. The only thing they're still doing out there is shuttling around VIPs. Morale for the sailors and marines is at an all time low and the frustration levels here on the home front are high as well. It seems terribly unfair to me that the Bataan was sent to Haiti and kept there longer than any other ships on the tail end of a 7 month deployment while other ships sit in the yards here. I know there are some legit reasons behind it, but it doesn't make my days any easier. I'm ready to have my husband home. He's been gone for 10 months of the past year and neither one of us bargained for that type of a schedule. I'm proud of him and the work he's done, but I'm ready for him to get to know his son, get reacquainted with his daughter (again!) and be around to help me out. With any luck, that will all happen in three more weeks. We hope!

And now, without further ado... here are some pictures of my ridiculously cute kids that have been taken over the past few weeks. They're a little bit out of order because it's been so long since I uploaded that I've forgotten how to do it in the proper order!

Enjoy and thanks for checking in!

** I had to include this picture so you could appreciate how awesomely his socks matched his shirt! They're not even the same brand!!!

** We just had a little celebration for Ally's b-day since Matthew isn't home. We're planning to have her party once he's here. Ally impresssed us all by blowing our her candles with no coaching! Somehow she knew just what to do with them- I'm still puzzled by that!!
